Next!!

The "To Read" section of my bookshelf threw up all over the dining room table!

O.k. that was an extremely gross analogy.

It was really me that spread the books out in an effort to look artistic...

not pukey.

My apologies if you were reading this over breakfast.

There are about 6 or 7 books that auditioned for a spot in this post
but I just wasn't 'feeling' them, so I cast them
aside like yesterdays coffee grounds
to draw attention to these few
little gems that are just
begging to be
read.
Here
is where you
come in and give me
a hand in selecting the next
couple of books that I should read.
If you see a book in this list that you've already
read, and would recommend, then please comment below.

^^^Wow...I'm good^^^

And don't forget, you can click on the image to enlarge!!

In case you are interested, there are 28.
I own these.
Some have been on my shelf for a year
or more.
And, I keep ordering books through the library.
Don't ask me why.
But, if you are a reader,
you'll already know the answer.
Because then you'll be just like me.
Lucky You!
Peace

  1. I hate to admit it, but I haven't read a single one of those. BUT Whistle Stop (fried green tomatoes) is still one of my favorite movies. *snort*

I actually own a couple of the books, but have not read them yet either: Little Bee and Alice Hoffman's "The Story Sisters." My husband and I actually collect books just to collect, lol! We love to stop at bookstores when out of town, and often head to the bargain sections at Barnes & Noble. Collecting books is a passion we both have.

    Loved your post, Melissa!

  3. I vote for Reading Lolita in Tehran or The Story Sisters or Love in the Time of Cholrea or A Reliable Wife or....I think you have a great selection to choose from!

  4. Wow, you have a gracious plenty that I would like to read and a few that I have read.
The Curse of the Spellmans would be a great fun read. I haven't read that one, but the others in the series are a hoot.
Rebecca by DuMaurier is one of my all time favorites. She creates an atmosphere that I loved.
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is good, too.
Have fun and let us know what you liked!

  5. If "The Poisonwood Bible" is atop all the others, take it as a sign. Read it. Now. One of the best books I've ever read.

"Little Bee" is outstanding. My review: http://bit.ly/rW4kXR

I was mildly disappointed in "Reading Lolita in Tehran." Read "Love in The Time of Cholera" too many years ago to remember it.

Something else for your shelf: "A Visit From The Goon Squad" by Jennifer Egan. This year's Pulitzer Prize winner for Fiction.

  6. REading Lolita has been on MY shelf for an embarrassingly LONG time. Also The Kite Runner - I'm so ashamed to say that out loud. I haven't read it! I haven't read it! There, I said it. I am though, reading A Discovery of Witches, which is surprisingly engrossing.

  7. Oh, you have to read Little Bee. You HAVE TO. The prose is spare, but the imagery is unbelievable, and the story.... It will hurt you, to read it, I think. What little joy that book contains shines bright enough to sting your eyes. It hurts. But I would put it up there with the best books of all time. Really. It's amazing.

  8. Do you want to read Poisonwood Bible together? I have had it for a couple of years and I just never have time to read. But maybe if we team up, I will!

  9. Reading Lolita in Tehran.

I read that and Lipstick Jihad by Azader Moaveni back to back. I had just started Reading Lolita when I took a trip to Salt Lake for a family reunion and sat next to a man who would (reluctantly) admit he was Iranian. He'd grown up in Tehran, came to the States for college, and was one of the thousands who got trapped her because of the revolution. Trust me when I say I talked that poor man's ear off!

Do be sure to tell us what you pick. I may be sufficiently motivated to read along w/you.

Couldn't agree with you more about "Little Bee," Desi.

  11. I also have to admit to not having read a single one. I have watched Fly Away Home, can't say I actually enjoyed it though. Reading Lolita sounds intriguing, as does Drinking Coffee Elsewhere, and Austenland. I'd go with Austenland.

I'm with Melanie. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and Rebecca (my favorite). I have tried to read Love in the Time of Cholera twice now, and if you pick that one, I will read it with you (something about it was a hard start, for some reason).

  13. I've read all of Kingsolver's books, except The Poisonwood Bible. Loved the others, but I wasn't able to get into TPB the couple of times I've tried. When that happens I try again and again until I'm ready, then wonder why I waited so long.

  15. My two favorites in your collection are "Love in the Time of Cholera" and "The Story Sisters." Obviously I have a thing for magical realism!
